We stopped at Sam's while traveling across southern Illinois. I loved the store. Bakery items looked wonderful and the staff were friendly and very helpful. It appears to be an unusually well managed small town grocery store.
Used to be a good place to buy meat, but the quality is down and the price has gone up. Don't have sales like they used to either.
A very convenient place for quick shopping if your list isn't to long or have a lot of fantsy stuff on it.
Produce was going bad.. a lot of it had mold and soft, brown spots. I bought a pre-made salad that looked great, but once I got to the middle, it was brown and slimy.
For a small town grocer, it has a nice selection of items. Pork burgers are the BEST around, so make sure to pick up several packs.
